For the past 56 years, the Kansas City Symphony Alliance has cherished the Symphony Designers’ Showhouse as a beloved annual tradition in support of the Kansas City Symphony. Through this extraordinary event, we have opened the doors to some of the most historic homes in our city while showcasing the remarkable creativity of Kansas City’s most talented designers and rising stars.

Together, this tradition has raised more than $5.5 million for the Kansas City Symphony—an achievement for which we are deeply grateful.

When the first Showhouse was introduced, it offered something truly special: a chance to experience a historic home while discovering the latest in interior design inspiration. Today, however, the way people find design ideas has evolved. Many now turn to sources such as HGTV, magazines, and social media, and as a result, the Showhouse is no longer as central to that experience as it once was.

At the same time, the demands on our volunteers have grown significantly. What once fit naturally into our members’ lives has become a major undertaking—requiring more than 7,000 hours of volunteer time over the course of nine months.

The decision to bring this cherished event to a close has not been easy. It has been thoughtfully considered for more than eight years, with deep appreciation for all that the Showhouse represents.

We will greatly miss the excitement of discovering each new home, the inspiration brought to life by our talented designers, and the opportunity to welcome our patrons—many of whom have become dear friends over the years.

While this marks the end of one chapter, it is also the beginning of another. We are actively exploring new ways to continue supporting the Kansas City Symphony, and we look forward to sharing those plans with you soon.
